Your Personal Year Number

Some years you start a hundred things. Some years nothing moves no matter how hard you push. Some years everything seems to end at once.

In numerology, that isn't random. Life moves in nine-year cycles, and your personal year number tells you where you are in yours — what this year is for, and what it's not for.

Unlike your life path or destiny number, which never change, your personal year changes every year. It's numerology's forecasting tool.

How to calculate your personal year

Add your birth month, your birth day, and the current year, then reduce to a single digit.

Example: born 17 June, calculating for 2026.

  • Month: 6
  • Day: 17 → 1 + 7 = 8
  • Year: 2026 → 2 + 0 + 2 + 6 = 10 → 1
  • Total: 6 + 8 + 1 = 15 → 1 + 5 = 6

So this person is in a personal year 6 in 2026.

When does it start? Most numerologists count the personal year from 1 January. Some count it from your birthday. Try both and see which fits your experience; many people notice the new theme building from around their birthday and landing fully by the new year.

Master numbers. Some numerologists keep an 11 or 22 when it appears in a personal year calculation, reading it as a heightened 2 or 4 year. Others always reduce to 1–9. The core cycle is the same either way.

The nine personal years

Personal year 1 — beginnings. Plant seeds. Start the project, move, relationship or new direction. Energy is fresh and self-directed. What you begin now shapes the next nine years.

Personal year 2 — patience and partnership. Slower. Things you started are growing underground. Focus on relationships, cooperation and details. Frustrating if you push; rewarding if you nurture.

Personal year 3 — expression and growth. Social, creative and expansive. Say yes to people and ideas. Watch for scattering your energy across too many things.

Personal year 4 — work and foundations. Build. Structure, discipline, health and hard work. Not glamorous; essential. What you build now holds.

Personal year 5 — change and freedom. Movement, surprises, travel and turning points. Expect the unexpected; stay flexible.

Personal year 6 — love and responsibility. Home, family, relationships and commitments. Often a year of marriages, moves, caring for others, and taking on responsibility.

Personal year 7 — reflection. Inward. Study, rest, spirituality and self-examination. Not the year to force outer success. Many people find this year lonely at first and deeply valuable later.

Personal year 8 — power and harvest. Career, money, recognition and authority. The effort of the previous years comes due, for better or worse. (Money blocks and abundance.)

Personal year 9 — endings and release. Completion. Clear out what's finished: jobs, relationships, habits, belongings. Endings in a 9 year make room for the 1 that follows.

Using your personal year well

  • Align big moves with the cycle. Launch in a 1, build in a 4, harvest in an 8, let go in a 9.
  • Don't fight a 2 or a 7. Slow years feel like failure only if you expect them to be fast.
  • Look back to check it. Calculate your personal years for the last decade and compare them to what actually happened. This is the quickest way to find out whether the cycle speaks to you.
  • Use personal months, too. Add your personal year to the calendar month and reduce for a finer-grained theme.

The personal year is one clock among several

A personal year gives a theme, but it's a theme shared by everyone born on the same month and day. Two people in a personal year 8 can have very different years depending on what else is happening in their charts.

Other systems add their own clocks:

  • Astrology has transits — the planets moving through your chart now — and the big life cycles like the Saturn return around 29 and 58.
  • Human design has its own long cycles, including the Saturn return and the Uranus opposition around 40–42.
  • The Matrix of Destiny maps life by age, with arcana for each period.

When your personal year 1 lands during a Jupiter transit to your midheaven, the "new beginning" is probably about career, and probably substantial. When a personal year 9 lines up with a Saturn return, the endings are likely to be significant ones.

Reading your year across four systems

SoulDecode builds your full profile from your birth details — birth chart, numerology, human design and Matrix of Destiny — and keeps an eye on the current sky, so you can ask where you are right now: what's this year about for me? is now a good time to leave this job? It reads your cycle against your whole profile rather than a generic number, and remembers what you've told it, so the answer reflects your actual life, not just your birthday.

Ask it anything, just like a private reading

This is the part most people don't expect. SoulDecode isn't a report you read once and file away. It works like sitting across from a reader who has your whole chart open in front of them: you ask whatever is on your mind, in your own words, and it answers from your profile, not a generic sign. Follow up as many times as you like, push back when something doesn't fit, and come back next week with what happened. For example:

  • “What's this year about for me?”
  • “Is now a good time to leave my job, or should I wait?”
  • “Why has everything felt stuck since spring?”

There's no clock running and no question too small or too awkward. It remembers your chart and everything you've told it, so every conversation picks up where the last one left off. (How that compares with booking a 90-minute reading.)
